Hardscaping & Pool Decking

Durable, Beautiful Surfaces Built for Northern California's Climate

The Foundation of Every Great Pool Area

Hardscaping is the structural backbone of your outdoor space. It includes every non-living element surrounding your pool: the decking you walk on, the walls that define your yard, the patios where you gather, and the structures that provide shade and shelter. At Infinity E. Pools & Spas, we design and install hardscaping that stands up to Northern California's intense summer heat, freeze-thaw cycles in the foothills, and years of heavy foot traffic around your pool.

Every material we use is selected for performance in Northern California's climate. We account for thermal expansion, UV exposure, slip resistance when wet, and long-term durability so your investment looks as good in year ten as it does on day one. Our team handles everything from initial grading and drainage planning to final sealing and finishing.

Whether you need a simple concrete pool deck or a multi-level patio with retaining walls, fire features, and an outdoor kitchen footprint, we build it right the first time.

Pool Decking & Coping

The deck is the most-used surface around your pool. We install concrete, stamped concrete, travertine, and paver decking with proper slope for drainage and a slip-resistant finish for safety. Pool coping--the cap along the pool's edge--is installed in matching or contrasting stone, precast concrete, or natural materials to create a clean, finished transition between your pool shell and deck surface.

Travertine & Natural Stone

Travertine is one of the most popular pool decking materials in Northern California for good reason: it stays cool underfoot in 100+ degree heat, resists slipping when wet, and develops a beautiful patina over time. We also work with flagstone, bluestone, limestone, and slate for clients who want a distinctive natural look. All stone is set on a properly prepared base with appropriate joint spacing to prevent cracking.

Stamped & Decorative Concrete

Stamped concrete gives you the look of stone, brick, or slate at a lower price point. We offer dozens of patterns and color combinations, and apply an integral color plus surface release agent for depth and realism. Every stamped deck is sealed with a UV-resistant sealant that protects the color and prevents surface wear from Northern California's harsh sun.

Retaining Walls & Seat Walls

Retaining walls solve grade changes, create level entertaining areas on sloped lots, and add visual interest to flat properties. We build with segmental block, poured concrete, natural stone veneer, and stacked stone depending on height requirements and design goals. Seat walls (18 to 24 inches tall) double as built-in seating around fire pits, planters, and pool edges.

Pergolas & Shade Structures

Northern California averages 90+ days over 90 degrees. A well-placed pergola, pavilion, or shade structure makes your pool area usable through the entire summer. We build in wood, aluminum, vinyl, and composite materials. Options include retractable canopies, fixed louvers, fan-equipped ceilings, and integrated lighting for evening use.

Outdoor Kitchen Foundations

An outdoor kitchen needs a solid structural base, proper gas and electrical rough-ins, and countertop surfaces that handle weather and heavy use. We build the hardscape foundation--concrete block islands, stone veneer, countertop support, and utility routing--so your kitchen performs and lasts. We coordinate with licensed plumbers and electricians for all utility connections.

Paver Patios & Walkways

Interlocking pavers are extremely durable and allow for individual replacement if a unit ever cracks. We install pavers on a compacted aggregate base with a sand-set or mortar-set method depending on application. Popular patterns include herringbone, running bond, and basketweave in materials ranging from tumbled concrete pavers to imported porcelain.

Drainage & Grading

Water management is critical around pools. Standing water damages surfaces, creates safety hazards, and can undermine structural elements over time. We engineer proper slopes, install channel drains and French drains, and route water away from the pool, home foundation, and neighboring properties. Every hardscaping project starts with a drainage plan.

Choosing the Right Decking Material

Each material has trade-offs in cost, durability, heat retention, and aesthetics. Here is how the most common pool decking options compare for Northern California homeowners.

Travertine

Heat: Stays cool, even in direct sun

Durability: Extremely durable, natural variation hides wear

Maintenance: Seal every 2 to 3 years

Cost: Premium ($15 to $30/sq ft installed)

Best for: Homeowners who want a luxurious, timeless look

Stamped Concrete

Heat: Can get hot; lighter colors help

Durability: Very durable with proper sealing

Maintenance: Reseal every 2 to 3 years

Cost: Mid-range ($8 to $18/sq ft installed)

Best for: Budget-conscious projects wanting a stone look

Interlocking Pavers

Heat: Moderate; depends on color and material

Durability: Individual units replaceable if damaged

Maintenance: Re-sand joints periodically

Cost: Mid to premium ($10 to $25/sq ft installed)

Best for: Design flexibility and easy future repairs

Our Hardscaping Process

Pool hardscaping construction in progress

1. Site Assessment & Design

We survey your property, assess soil conditions and drainage patterns, and create a detailed hardscape plan with material selections, elevations, and drainage routing. You approve the design before any work begins.

2. Grading & Base Preparation

Proper base preparation is the single biggest factor in hardscape longevity. We excavate to the correct depth, compact subgrade soil, install geotextile fabric where needed, and lay compacted aggregate base material in lifts.

3. Construction & Installation

With the base set, we install your chosen surfaces, build walls and structures, set coping, and integrate drainage components. All work follows manufacturer specifications and local building codes.

4. Finishing & Sealing

Final steps include joint filling, surface sealing, cleanup, and a walkthrough with you to confirm everything meets our standards. We provide care instructions specific to your materials.
